Be A Volunteer

Since 1984, volunteers have been welcoming guests from around the world through the City of Independence Historic Site Volunteer Program.

Each year, April through October, volunteers provide tours of the Bingham-Waggoner Estate, Vaile Mansion, 1859 Jail, Museum and Marshall's Home, or provide assistance at the Truman Home Ticket and Information Center which also serves as the Tourism Visitor Center. The National Frontier Trails Museum has a year round docent program.

Orientation and training are provided. Scheduling is flexible to fit each individual's availability. If you enjoy working with people and have an interest sharing the story of Independence’s unique heritage, fill out the form below.

I 've found that volunteering is very exciting, meeting visitors from across the United States and other countries. I have also enjoyed my association with the other volunteers and certainly plan to continue volunteering
